About the Data

This data tool was created using public-use files from the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Education, and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as well as restricted data obtained from 13 home visiting model developers, the Institute for the Advancement of Family Support Professionals (IAFSP), and the National Home Visiting Resource Center. See the Technical Appendix (PDF) for details on data sources and dashboard metrics.

State-level metrics related to workforce characteristics (age, sex, education level, and work experience) rely on restricted data from the IAFSP, collected from March 2021 through February 2025.

County-level estimates of the number of home visitors and supervisors are based on data from 13 home visiting model developers (collected February–May 2025), including Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, AVANCE Parent-Child Education Program, Baby Talk, Early Head Start, Family Connects, Family Spirit, High Risk Perinatal Program, Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting, ParentChild+, Parents as Teachers, Promoting First Relationships, SafeCare, and Team for Infants Exposed to Substance Use. Data on these workforce counts are available for 45 percent of counties with at least one home visiting agency. Future dashboard updates aim to improve this county coverage rate.

State-level estimates of the number of home visitors and supervisors are derived from data from the same 13 home visiting models, supplemented with data from the IAFSP, collected from March 2021 through February 2025.
